If she/he is willing to talk about it, then do so first. But if she/he made his/her own mind already, forget about that person, not worth it at all! Ask him/her about what they heard, if it's true (which I doubt since you seem like a nice person) then apologize and try to make up for that, but if you think what she/he heard is crap and none-sense, then, MAKE HER/HIM FEEL REALLY BAD ABOUT THE WHOLE THING! Say something like: "I can't believe that you would choose to believe someone else over me, I thought we were friends." maintain an upset face or an upset attitude or both but do it naturally and don't fake it. Walk away, and don't look back. If she/he is really a friend, she/he will feel bad about the whole thing, and she/he is never gonna doubt you next time, in fact, she/he is gonna be one of your best defenders against those back-biting bastards. That's almost guaranteed. But if she/he still sticks to what she/he heard, move along, you're better than that.

Remember, don't be like him/her and go straight into conclusions, be both emotional and rational at the same time.
